Capes should definatly be toggleable. The only time I think you should be forced to wear a cape is during PvP or GvG. In my opinion you should even be able to toggle them in your Guild Hall.

The cape should definately be toggleable. I speak for my guild when I say I dislike the capes. I simply think they are gay imo.
Another issue that I have with capes is that they are mandatory to own a guild hall. My guild is great and I enjoy playing with each and everyone of them. We want to GvG but since we dislike the capes we cannot participate in a whole side of the game that is so appealing to us because we refuse to wear such an ugly piece of attire. We should have the option to not own a cape at all and still play GvG. When my guild plays in Tombs and Team Arenas the game automatically assigns us a blank cape throughout the battle. Why cant this be done in GvG?
Is there anyone else that feels the same way?

Yet another sign for toggleable capes!
They're not really needed in PvE, you can still find your guildies in town with the "Ctrl" key anyway, and some armour just looks a bit naff with the capes on.
For all those who are saying "Just join a guild without capes", - a guild should have an identity, and a way to differentiate in PvP. However, it's not right that someone's decision of what guild they choose should be based on an indelible fashion accessory. They should be thinking more along the lines of whether the other members will be helpful, if they can benefit from PvP, GvG etc. - It's a little callous to force someone to join a less suitable guild just because a graphic addition doesn't appeal to them.
Toggling capes is not going to change the game. It's just a nice option to have.

I think anet have not implemented it yet, not beacause too difficult, but maybe because this will change totally the feeling in the game, almost everyone have a cape, try enter in ascalon or in tombs outpost now, you'll see a lot of capes around there.
Maybe anet doesn't knows what would happen if many of them would be permitted put cape off. Who is goin to like this? only 10 % of players? more?
Even if easy this could cause a mayor difference in how game looks right now.
Maybe not so easy but maybe better would be give possibility to guild members to choose their own manner to show up guild symbol, for example a bandana around leg, or neck, or arm, a tattoo or have the possibility to put guild emblem in some or every single piece of armoure just like we do with colours.
yes this would be a hard skinnig work too...I know
And yes capes desappers underwater because reflective-trasparent surfaces in this game prevent from rendering other special effect surfaces. If you try female elementalist have hair desappearing underwater ...and... if you unequip her armour you will see something...
Hope a-net fix this too..
No vote because this is not big trouble to me, having or not cape on in my character doesn't matter to me that much, even if you are wearing a beautiful armour you shoul know that your textures are not so beatiuful on different screen other than your own.
bye all, sorry for my poor english

TOGGLE BUTTON NOW!
Its true, they look good on warriors mostly, on every other class they look awfully forced and even nonsensical. Tatto monks and scarred necros look specially goofy.

Toggle button, definitely is a good idea.
The only good graphics of a cape looks good only on the male warrior, but even there, it passes through shields and/or the leggings of the armor.
For example: If your char is a female Mesmer and u got that stylish Virtuoso attire, wich looks like a great renaissance dress, WOULD YOU PUT A CAPE AROUND YOUR NECK????? When the dress looks fabulous without anything more?
The cape should be "toggleable" and/or to give a better possibility of Guild Wars, it could be transformed into the banner of a shield, into a tattoo, into the graphics of a signet ring, into a drawing on armor AND/OR, it could be used as a command:
e.g.: /guild (which would show the banner of the guild to all players around, like the /rank command).

This is a well-known issue with the developers. It has been addressed by Gaile several times as something "that is definitely being considered for the future" and not something that is going to happen in the immediate future.

(except for gvg or hoh, then you have to wear your guilds cape, just makes sense that way too me)

I'm wondering why this thread is still open?
Alex <whatshisname> from ncSoft already wrote somehwere on this forum, that they're looking into it, to have capes toggleable "in the near future" or maybe already in chapter 2.
